University CAD & Signage

Through consulting, CAD standardization, and mentoring, our firm was able to show the importance of numbering systems for the current Work Order system, and to provide the flexibility needed to maintain the status quo of certain room numbers for other stake holder groups such as Space Planning.

The Problem =

Work Orders were being generated in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) but the locations were not easily located in the field leading to lost time and frustration.

Problem Identification =

The problem revolved around the fact that the signage on the ground quite often had non unique numbering or no numbering. CAD plans needed updates.   Terminal Velocity FM identified the problem for Maintenance staff, while creating new value for other campus organizations.

The Solution =

By interviewing the financial and space planning staff as well as the maintenance staff, a solution was identified which updated room numbering links to all spaces within the growing university campus to a unique physical number of the room to a database room number.

Our team maintained the client’s ability to track by the old signage room numbers along with the new. Creating a new field verification form for field workers we made it simple to track any room with both old labels as well as the unique room code.

Working on the ground with staff members, TVFM mentored and trained them in how to verify room number, room use, and type, for improving the work order flow.  The project also added the value of space planning terminology which moved them to FICM standards.

After the Field verification efforts were completed, our CAD team cleaned and updated the drawing plans, linking them to the Work Order database with the new FICM codes and old room numbers.

We then updated views and created FICM reports to allow the user roles to work comfortably with the new information.
